Things You Should Know About the E.T. Lowe Self-Pub Process

We are not a vanity or subsidy press. You will be the publisher of your book. We will not receive any royalties from the sale of your book. We provide book production services to get your book into print.

It is essential to determine where your book will be printed before we begin the layout process. Most short-run commercial printers only print to their specified trim sizes.

Your manuscript should be edited in its entirety before we begin the layout. We offer both copyediting and proofreading services, or you may have this done before you submit the manuscript to us. Experts agree that a thorough copyedit is essential for a professional quality book. After the book has been paged, corrections to the text block are at your expense.

It is worth the expense to order an advance copy of your book from the printer. This is your opportunity to make one final inspection before multiple copies of the book are printed and distribution begins.

You can get distribution through Amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com when you self-publish so you have the same opportunity to sell your book as the large publishing houses.

You can choose whether you want a traditional printed book, ePub book, or both. You are in control of your book.

The production of your manuscript to a completed printer-ready file moves quickly. Depending on the scope of the book, it may be completed in a few weeks. Larger, more complex works may take a couple of months, but this is much quicker than the average 18 months it takes a book to be released through a publishing house.

Page Design: We have designed hundreds of books through the years. We work closely with the client to achieve a book design that is visually pleasing and content appropriate. We feel your book deserves more than the template-based design that is offered by some typesetters.

Cover Design: All great books deserve a great cover. You always hear “don’t judge a book by its cover” but the reality is the cover will draw readers to your book. We design covers to reflect the tone of your book and get it noticed.

Editorial: We offer a full range of copyediting and proofreading services to our clients. Whether a quick final read of your first novel or a complete copyedit of a scholarly text, we have an editorial package to meet your needs.

Indexing: Many works need an index and we offer indexing services at an affordable rate to complete your book.

Image Scanning and Retouching: E.T. Lowe provides high resolution scanning and photo retouching services. Quality matters and we will provide the best possible images for your book.

XML: We can create your print or ePub book using your existing XML tagged content. We can also create an XML file from your finished InDesign document for archiving and updating of future editions.

ePub: Many clients want their books in a digital format. We can provide your book in a variety of e-reader formats so you don’t miss out on that market share. We can also produce ePub files of your backlist.

PDF workflow: We use a PDF workflow to keep your production and shipping costs down. This also enables us to provide quick turnaround during the proof stage of your project.
